Construction Begins on Salerno’s New Hospital, with Manens Leading Construction Management
Salerno, January 30, 2025 – The construction of the new San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d’Aragona Hospital in Salerno has officially begun, marking a major step forward for healthcare infrastructure in the Campania region.
The project was presented in the hall of the existing hospital, with speeches by Vincenzo D’Amato, General Director of AOU Ruggi, Alessandro Artuso, Lead Architect, and Giorgio Finotti, CEO of Manens and Construction Director. The event concluded with remarks from Vincenzo De Luca, President of the Campania Region, who emphasized the importance of delivering a cutting-edge healthcare facility that meets the Region’s needs while upholding the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
An Ambitious Project with a Tight Schedule
Giorgio Finotti highlighted the ambitious scope of the project, particularly the challenging timeline: 870 days as per contractual deadlines. The construction site will involve approximately 700 workers, operating in three shifts to accelerate internal works and ensure rapid progress toward completing a state-of-the-art healthcare facility in record time.
The new hospital will feature 732 beds, 50 intensive care units, and 1,710 parking spaces, with a layout designed to optimize operational efficiency and enhance the experience of both patients and staff. The €470 million investment aims to create a fully accessible structure seamlessly integrated into the city’s transportation network.
A Key Milestone in Campania’s Healthcare Development Plan
Alongside the new Santobono Hospital in Naples, the Salerno Hospital is one of the first major projects in an ambitious plan to modernize healthcare infrastructure across Campania. These investments will equip the region with state-of-the-art medical facilities capable of adapting to its evolving healthcare demands.
Following the presentation, local authorities visited the construction site, marking the official launch of the works.
