IOR Bellinzona: Manens Among the Key Players in the Future Oncology Center

Bellinzona, January 16, 2025—Yesterday, the exhibition showcasing the finalist designs for the new Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) building was inaugurated at the Sala Patriziale in Bellinzona’s Town Hall. This exhibition follows the announcement in December of the winning project awarded by the Isb+ consortium, which includes Zurich-based Santer Architekten and Locarno architect Francesco Buzzi, with Manens S.p.A. as a key partner.

The new building will be constructed next to the existing Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) — a project originally designed by Steam (now Manens) — marking a significant milestone for scientific research. The project is meant to embody innovation, sustainability, and the functionality required for a state-of-the-art centre. The facility will feature 12 laboratories, university classrooms, a cafeteria, and a 250-seat auditorium, which will also be available for public events, highlighting its dual academic and social role.

The exhibition will be open until January 27, 2025, offering a unique opportunity to explore the projects that aim to strengthen Bellinzona’s position as a centre of excellence in oncology research.

Manens. is proud to contribute to this groundbreaking project, continuing the journey started with the IRB building and reaffirming its role as a strategic partner in designing sustainable and technologically advanced solutions for healthcare and research projects.
