The project for the Ospedale del Nord Barese has been unveiled, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility to be built between Bisceglie and Molfetta, serving a population of around 250,000.
Spread over 17 hectares with 243 beds and classified as a Level I emergency department, the hospital will serve the broader area including Molfetta, Trani, Corato, Terlizzi, Ruvo, and Giovinazzo.
It will host multiple specialties and provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic resources, ready to handle medium- and high-complexity emergencies. Dedicated areas will include general medicine, surgery, maternal and child health, intensive care, infectious diseases, emergency services, long-term care, and psychiatry. Supporting facilities will include diagnostic units, operating theatres, delivery suites, outpatient clinics, service areas, staff spaces, and welcoming areas.
The project – presented on Tuesday, September 30 by Prof. Eng. Francesco Ruggiero on behalf of the temporary consortium led by Manens, with Studio Altieri, Pinearq, and AGM Project Consulting – envisions a structure organized around a central corridor connecting four rectangular blocks, with three main entrances and separate access routes for visitors, healthcare staff, and emergency services.
With a focus on comfort, sustainability, and innovation, the new Ospedale del Nord Barese will be a center of excellence that not only consolidates the existing healthcare provision but strengthens and expands it. It will also include spaces specifically designed for managing potential pandemic emergencies, creating a true “hospital within a hospital.””
