Welcome is an urban regeneration project inspired by biophilic architecture. Thoughtfully integrated into the city, it aims to redevelop the former Rizzoli Publishing Headquarters into a vibrant new hub for Milan, defined by its iconic design.
Blurring the boundaries between urban and natural elements, as well as between work and daily life, Welcome is a forward-thinking development that prioritizes sustainability, well-being, and environmental responsibility, aligning with the highest ESG standards.
The project includes offices and workspaces, meeting areas, restaurants and cafés, retail spaces, and parking facilities, all surrounded by lush outdoor areas—gardens, pedestrian pathways, and terraces that can also be used for work and events. A new public green space further enriches the city.
Designed for maximum energy efficiency and sustainability, the building integrates zero CO₂ emission technologies, renewable energy sources, advanced consumption monitoring systems, and groundwater recovery solutions, with the goal of achieving WELL and LEED Platinum certifications.
Rooted in biophilic principles, the design embraces the human-nature connection as a key factor for well-being and productivity. Expansive glass surfaces provide abundant natural light, while accessible indoor and outdoor green spaces and nature-inspired materials enhance the experience. Thermal comfort and air quality are carefully managed through an advanced filtration system, digital monitoring, and precise temperature and humidity control, ensuring a healthy and comfortable environment.
By combining these elements, Welcome creates workspaces that enhance focus, reduce stress, and foster a deeper connection with the surrounding environment.
The lighting design for the square balances architectural integration, regulatory compliance, and a safe, welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
Following biophilic principles, the concept design enhances the building’s connection with the natural landscape. Light highlights natural materials like wood and greenery, creating a calm, relaxing environment even at night. Soft, diffused lighting illuminates both the ground and people’s faces, enhancing safety and comfort. Subtle accents on wooden seating and landscaped hills encourage social interaction and rest, while dynamic lighting effects add depth and character to the space.
Greenery lighting is discreet and limited to a few hours daily, respecting the night sky and plant rhythms while minimizing ecological impact. Designed in harmony with architecture and nature, the lighting enhances the urban experience, fostering sustainability and well-being.
