New student house in Ca’ Foscari Scientific Campus of Via Torino: a step toward a more inclusive and international University

December 11, 2023: ribbon cutting ceremony at the Ca’ Foscari Campus in Venice for the official opening of the brand new student residence in Via Torino. The event, chaired by the Rector of Ca’ Foscari University, Tiziana Lippiello, was attended by Representatives of the University Authority for the Right to Study (ESU) and Local and Regional Institutions, as well as all the firms involved in the design and construction of the building.

A five-floor building housing 142 beds ranging from single rooms, double rooms and mini-apartments with kitchen, social and dining areas, a gym, study rooms, and a basement car park for cars and bikes, all this close to the Campus and Forte Marghera, Mestre’s new hub of social aggregation.

Rector Lippiello stressed the importance of this new residence in the context of the campus expansion and in providing better services for the students, to internationalize Ca’ Foscari University and welcome students and scholars from around the world. The Via Torino residence is part of a broader project to create new residential spaces for students at Venetian University, following the recent inaugurations of the Santa Marta and San Giobbe student houses.

For Manens – which, together with Studio Architetti Mar, had the opportunity to follow the evolution of the whole Campus from the preliminary stages, first as designer and later as construction management – the inauguration of the residence represents the end of a great synergistic project, which led to the realization of a cutting-edge work from the point of view of architecture-structures and technological solutions, constantly oriented to efficiency and sustainability. In addition, the design aimed at creating modern and comfortable living spaces that would foster sociality and establish a real community around Campus life.

The ribbon cutting was followed by a guided tour of the building, during which Architect Giovanna Mar showed the features and innovative solutions adopted for the residence.
