{"id":9285,"date":"2019-11-13T10:47:40","date_gmt":"2019-11-13T09:47:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maneold.freewayweb.it\/?p=9285"},"modified":"2019-11-13T10:47:40","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T09:47:40","slug":"manens-tifs-at-mose-in-venice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/manens.com\/en\/non-categorizzato\/manens-tifs-at-mose-in-venice\/","title":{"rendered":"Manens-Tifs at MOSE in Venice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the 8th of November, Manens-Tifs visited the construction site of MOSE (acronym of the Italian name \u201cModulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico\u201d), an integrated work of civil, environmental and hydraulic engineering still under construction, aimed at the defense of Venice and of its lagoon from the disastrous consequences of the \u201cHigh Water Phenomenon\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cHigh Water Phenomenon\u201d, that has become increasingly frequent and intense in the last decades (starting from the so called \u201cGrande Alluvione\u201d of 1966 to the last critic events of 2018), represents a dangerous and continuous threat for the inhabitants of Venice, for the foundations of the buildings, for the great historical, artistic and environmental heritage of the Venetian capital, as well as for the other nearby lagoon cities.<\/p>\n<p>MOSE aims to protect the Venetian lagoon from these dramatic events, through the construction of retractable movable gates placed at the so-called inlets (the water connections between the lagoon with the open sea through which the ebb and flow of the tide occurs) of Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia, temporarily isolating the lagoon from the Adriatic Sea during the high tide events.<\/p>\n<p>After an explanation of the construction characteristics of the work at the Consorzio Venezia Nuova primary hall located at the Arsenal, Manens-Tifs\u2019s team visited the Lido\u2019s inlet (one of the three construction site together with Malamocco and Chioggia) where two rows of gates are located: the barrier of North Lido (21 gates, total lenght 420 m) and the barrier of South Lido (20 gates, total lenght 400 m).
