The agreement for the design of the new Pavilion 6 at Udine\u2019s Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital has been signed marking a significant step forward in the broader plan to modernize the region\u2019s healthcare infrastructure<\/h4>\n

The new facility will rise where the current building stands, which is scheduled for demolition in September, as part of the investment program promoted by the healthcare authority of the Friuli Region – Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Friuli Centrale (ASUFC) – to upgrade and expand the hospital campus. <\/p>\n

Following a European tender, ASUFC has awarded the engineering and architectural services to the team led by Manens S.p.A., working alongside Pinearq and Archest. The assignment covers the technical and economic feasibility design and safety coordination, with an option to extend the work to construction supervision in subsequent phases. <\/p>\n

Once completed, Pavilion 6 will serve as the main hub for outpatient services, gathering into a single 12,000\u2011square\u2011meter building the functions currently distributed across three pavilions (Pennato, Medical Specialties, and Surgery). The merger of these services into one facility will streamline internal flows and improve accessibility, thanks to a more efficient layout of clinical and support activities. The new building will feature 80 specialist clinics, 5 minor\u2011surgery rooms, and a day\u2011surgery operating suite equipped with three theatres and dedicated pre\u2011 and post\u2011operative areas. <\/p>\n

Designed as a flexible, sustainable, and technologically advanced facility, Pavilion 6 will develop across seven storey: five above-ground, dedicated to outpatient care, and two basement floors housing technical systems and logistics. Its modular architecture, arranged around generous green courtyards, will maximize natural light and enhance the comfort of indoor environments, contributing to the overall wellbeing of patients, staff, and visitors.
This layout will also ensure long\u2011term adaptability, allowing the facility to evolve with healthcare needs, without causing service breaks or pathway conflicts. <\/p>\n

Digital innovation will be a central feature of the new pavilion. Developed with BIM methodology, the project will integrate advanced systems for building performance monitoring through IoT technologies, as well as digital tools supporting clinical and administrative processes, including electronic medical records, automated check\u2011in procedures, and telemedicine services. The use of predictive AI for facility management will enable proactive maintenance, identifying potential issues in advance and ensuring continuity of operations. The project will also meet the highest standards of environmental and energy sustainability, in compliance with the national environmental requirements and LEED protocol. <\/p>\n

Thanks to this intervention, the Hospital of Udine takes an important step toward a more modern, efficient, and patient\u2011centered model of healthcare.
