R.ISO.RSA: Sustainable Redevelopment of Elderly Nursing Homes in Veneto
On September 28th and 29th, the Science4All event by the University of Padua returns, offering the public a chance to engage with science in a fun and accessible way. As part of the “Engineering Beyond Borders” panel, the “R.ISO.RSA VENETO” project will be presented. This initiative aims to assess the condition of nursing homes for elderly people in the Veneto region and propose innovative, sustainable solutions for their refurbishment.
Led by the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering (ICEA) at the University of Padua, the project involves several university departments, such as the Department of Medicine (DIMED), the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education, and Applied Psychology (FISPPA). In addition to academic partners like the Iuav University of Venice and Hochschule Augsburg, several companies are also involved. Manens is contributing expertise in energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality.
The project aims to develop an effective strategy for upgrading existing nursing houses’ energy systems and functionality, making them suitable for elderly residents, whether self-sufficient or not. The approach focuses on working within the existing structures by integrating timber modules, designed to be energy-efficient and technologically advanced. This method allows for quicker construction times, minimizes disruption to residents, and reduces environmental impact compared to traditional renovation methods. A key aspect of the project is ensuring accessibility, in line with Universal Design principles, to create inclusive spaces for everyone.
